Poly Student Develops multi- function App

A student from Quantity Surveying Department of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Name Bashir Hakeem Abdul, has developed an App with multiple functions.
The App with tag #FedPolyBida, enable its users to access news and other vital information, transact business online and engage in other profitable ventures.
The Higher National Diploma One (HND 1) He revealed in an exclusive interview with Our Correspondents that the App was originally designed with both old and new students of the polytechnic in mind to create among them "unity in diversity," adding that "with the app, it is like having all the required information about the polytechnic at your fingerprints."
However, He said "the fact that the app was primarily designed for students of the institution does not in any way stop other stakeholders of the school and the larger society from benefitting from it."
According to Mr. Bashir, the App to him over 4 months to design has a chat room that enables users to private-chat without intruding the privacy of other users. It also has e-library where students can read and learn.
Apart from the challenge posed by time, Bashir observed that another factor he had to battle with to bring the App to frution was finance.
"My tests, assignments and practicals are there and I had to spend money. It wasn't easy but my obsession with the Internet and love programming motivated me to come up with an App for the Polytechnic so as to solve certain challenges that usually confront Nigerian tertiary institutions, he explained.
Bashir said he was not satisfied with level of publicity given to the App so far, stressing that only about 5% of the institution's students is aware of its existence. He appealed to the Polytechnic management to give the App substance by making it official. "If the school can put it on Play Store, the all World will see it"
Bashir believed that once the polytechnic management makes the App official, it will have the capacity to run radio and television stations because, according to him, it supports online/digital streaming and dissemination of news through an audio format.
"It also has the polytechnic map. News students and other visitors who are not familiar with the school environment can use it to see popular locations.
The App is not limited to the polytechnic. Once it goes viral, other people can promote their activities on it. Advertisers can promote their goods and services. He said even the politicians can use the platform for their campaigns, "he added.
As at time of filling this report, plans were underway for negotiation between Bashir and the polytechnic management as to how the App will be better run and its capacity enlarge to benefit the school and Nigerians at large.
