FIFA Fines Nigeria For Crowd Disorder During a World Cup Qualify

World soccer ruling body FIFA has slammed a fine of 30,000 Swiss Francs (N11,049,557) on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The fine was for crowd disorder during a World Cup qualifying match, which the Super Eagles won 4-0 over Cameroon at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in September.

The world soccer body further warned against future occurrence.

According to a statement issued on the official website of FIFA, Nigeria violated article 65 and 67 of the FBC FIFA stadium safety and security regulations and as such was charged for improper conduct amongst spectators (pitch invasions by supporters and invasions of restricted areas by supporters other than the pitch).
Recall, a similar incident took place on March 29, 2016, when fans infiltrated the pitch during Nigeria’s game against Egypt at the Ahmadu Bello stadium, Kaduna.

FIFA also fined the Czech federation 5,000 Swiss francs ($5,150) for crowd disorder.
FIFA’s attempts to crack down on fans chanting gay slurs saw seven national federations fined for incidents.

Argentina was ordered to pay 65,000 Swiss francs ($67,000), Panama 50,000 Swiss francs ($51,500), and Hungary 20,000 Swiss francs ($20,600).
